Memorial Day (May 2016)
Members of the Skitswish Society, Children of the American Revolution, joined Lt. George Farragut Chapter members at Forest Ceremony to participate in a Memorial Day ceremony. Chaplain Cindy Schobert spoke after placing our chapter's wreath.
Chapter Meeting (May 2016)
Happy birthday to us! For our meeting this month we donned pretty hats and enjoyed "Talk and Tea Time" as we were seated at tables according to our birthday month. Janet H and Louisa D were voted winners in our Most Original hat contest. Barb N and Luella were voted winners for Most Attractive hats. Contest winners received a Patriot plant. Look at all of the pretty tables and ladies!
Chapter Meeting (April 2016)
Former Chaplain Sandra Coultrap administered the Oath of Membership to new member Helen B. who was pinned by her daughter Catherine. Two local students were recognized as chapter winners in DAR's annual American History essay contest. Wyatt J. was not only the 5th grade chapter winner for his essay on "A Colonial Family's Reaction to the Stamp Act," but he also placed second at the national level. Kate E. was recognized as the chapter winner at the high school level for her essay on "Columbus and Lindbergh: A Journey Across the Atlantic." Our chapter also presented a historical marker to the Hayden Lake Country Club. Member Nancy M gave a wonderful presentation about her patriot Andrew Ellicott's role in surveying the cornerstones for Washington, D.C.
103rd Idaho State Society State Conference (April 2016)
Lt. George Farragut members traveled to Idaho Falls where Old Fort Hall Chapter hosted the 103rd state conference.
Anchor Party (April 2016)
Several chapter members and one prospective member gathered for an Anchor Party to assemble auxiliary pin ribbons. Funds earned from the sale of the ribbons will be used to purchase bronze plaques for local historic buildings. Attendees sewed, ironed, assembled and made bags while they chatted the night away.
50th Anniversary of Vietnam War Commemoration (March 2016)
Lt. George Farragut Chapter joined nearly 9,000 commemorative partner organizations across the country honoring Vietnam veterans on March 29th, the day when the last of the American troops left Vietnam in 1973. Attendees were welcomed by members of the Patriot Guard Riders. Barb Nelson chaired the event that included John Kowzan playing Revelry and Taps on his bugle, and Vietnam War Era Veteran John Sheldon singing our national anthem. The Color Guard was made up of veterans from two American Legion Posts. Chapter Regent Luella Stilley was the keynote speaker. She delivered an emotional and touching message to Vietnam veterans and their families, as well as to all military personnel. We again paid tribute to local heroes who lost their lives in or as a result of serving in the Vietnam War.
Silver DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal (March 2016)
Regent Luella Stilley awarded our first Silver DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal to Cadet Major Sarah Kladar of the Coeur d'Alene Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, USAF Auxiliary, who has recently been accepted into the US Naval Academy. As part of the work of the National Defense Committee, the medal recognizes a student for participation in a non-ROTC, military-affiliated cadet program such as (but not limited to) Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Civil Air Patrol Cadets Corps and Young Marines.

Lt. George Farragut members came through, bringing many fun and beautiful items for a silent auction that raised $589 for the historical marker our chapter is placing at the Hayden Lake Country Club. "The power of women is pretty amazing," said Vice President General Liz Jones. Chaplain Cindy Lou Schobert administered the Oath of Membership to new member Audrey O. Liz Jones shared a presentation on DAR's Guardian Trust program before members took turns playing DARopoly while others were busy bidding on the auction items. Those who stayed for lunch were not disappointed!
Anchor Party (February 2016)
Twelve members and two prospective members met for a fun evening of hat making under the instruction of Janet H. Janet donated yards of fabric and silk flowers. Regent Luella Stilley provided a stack of new sun hats. Registrar Sandra Doutré shared items to make fascinators (seen in last three photos). Pretty ladies and a great event!

At our February meeting Chaplain Cindy Lou Schobert administered the Oath of Membership to Kristina F. Regent Luella Stilley presented a commemorative certificate to Curt Nelson in appreciation of his service during the Vietnam War. HODARs joined us for a living history trunk program presented by Sons of the American Revolution member Stan Wills.
Anchor Party (January 2016)
Lt. George Farragut Chapter hosted its first Anchor Party, a Friday night outreach to include members and prospective members who cannot attend our Friday daytime meetings. The event was well attended and fun for all. Attendees made 100 Valentines for Veterans that will be delivered to the local VA hospital by our DAR Service for Veterans committee.
Chapter Meeting (January 2016)
In spite of the wintry weather, we had a good turnout for our January meeting. New member Angie C. took the Oath of Membership with her grandmother watching on. Teresa Hart shared the story of Newby-Ginnings, a non-profit created in October 2013 in honor and in memory of SPC Nicholas Newby who was killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq on July 7, 2011. The organization's mission is to provide resources, referrals and essential personal and household items to Veterans, active military and their families as well as families of our fallen heroes (Gold Star families) at absolutely no cost to them. Those who stayed for lunch enjoyed a delicious dessert of Cinnamon Candy Grilled Pound Cake with Mandarin Marmalade Mousse. Yum!
Chapter Meeting (December 2015)
Snow and festive decorations added a nice touch to our December meeting. We collected items for the Ronald McDonald House, Cowgirls & Women Warriors and the Women's Center. Attendees were encouraged to dress in either Victorian or festive dress and members voted on their favorite in each category. Kaleidoscope, a Victorian barbershop quarter provided entertainment.
Wreaths Across America (December 2015)
It was a cold, rainy and blustery morning, but that didn't stop Lt. George Farragut Daughters from gathering at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens to honor our veterans as part of the Wreaths Across America program. Remember. Honor. Teach.
Chapter Meeting (November 2015)
Two new members, Barbara C. and Louise P., took the Oath of Membership at our December meeting. Librarian Connie McGee organized a fundraiser for the DAR National Library. Our members came through with many items to auction in addition to books from our disbanded chapter library, raising nearly $1,000 for the library.

50th Anniversary Celebration (October 2015)
It was a glorious time as we celebrated not only the 50th anniversary of Lt. George Farragut Chapter, but also founding member Helen Naslund's 50h anniversary in DAR. Helen was honored for her faithful service including serving as chapter and state regent. We were honored to have State Regent Rhonda Kren and State Chaplain Martha Schmidt with us along with members of Wild Horse Trail Chapter.
Commemoration of the Vietnam War (October 17, 2015)
Lt. George Farragut Chapter honored the families of 12 fallen veterans from the local area in a program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The program included dedication of The Vietnam Wall Cabinet of Memories that will house memorabilia left at the Traveling Vietnam Wall in Hayden. Keynote speaker Donna Harwood, a Vietnam veteran and chapter member, spoke on "Women's Service During the Vietnam War Era." Families of the fallen were presented a quilt made by Mary Spray and her team.
National DAR Day of Service (October 11, 2015)
Lt. George Farragut Chapter joined chapters across the nation in celebrating the 125th anniversary of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Our chapter chose to mark the grave of a former chapter regent buried in a local cemetery.
Chapter Meeting (September 2015)
Five new members of Lt. George Farragut Chapter took the Oath of Membership at our first meeting of the 2015 - 2016 year. Sharon Strobel was installed as chapter historian and Kim Morgan as recording secretary. Chapter members and guests rang bells for Constitution Week. Liz Jones shared all about DAR pins in her program "DAR 101."

Jane Robertson graciously hosted an Ice Cream Social for new and prospective members to become more acquainted with chapter officers and members.
4th of July Parade (2015)
Everyone loves a parade, and Lt. George Farragut Chapter members are no exception. Children of the American Revolution Skitswish Society joined our chapter in Coeur d'Alene's 4th of July parade. Continental Congress (June 2015)
Chapter members Connie McGee and Liz Jones represented our chapter at the 124th Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. The photos below give a tiny glimpse into their experience.
Applebee's Fundraiser (June 2015)
Lt. George Farragut members and prospective members volunteered as servers, hostesses, dishwashers and more to serve 113 all-you-can eat pancake breakfasts on a beautiful Saturday morning. Our efforts raised $1,826.85 for Inland Northwest Honor Flight and DAR Project Patriot.

Members of Lt. George Farragut Chapter and the Skitswish Society (Children of the American Revolution) greeted veterans returning from an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on June 4th. Mr. Stan Wills, SAR Spokane Chapter #1, showed Skitswish members how to make a Betsy Ross star out of a piece of paper.
